2018 State of Texas Worker of the Year – Robert (Bob) White

Robert (Bob) White

Robert G. White, or simply Bob as he prefers, is a pleasure to work with at Beacon Lighthouse, Inc. However, it took several years before he came to work with us. He has had a full diverse career in his lifetime.

Bob joined the Navy where he served in the engine room of a mine sweep ship from 1951 to 1952. When he left the Navy, he took a Civil Engineering Training Course to work on diesel trucks on Sheppard AFB.

Eventually, he went to work for the State of Texas as an adult probation officer. Soon he transferred to the Juvenile probation department. He changed the lives of many young adults, who later thanked him. After some time there, he returned to Sheppard AFB as a custodian.

After retirement, he came to work at Beacon Lighthouse for the Blind. On September 1, 2007, Bob started as a Press Operator. Then in 2013, he transferred to the “Twist n Fill” area, where he became the lead machine operator.

Bob is a conscientious worker. He demands superior product production. At 85 years of age, he has proven that age is just a frame of mind. He is always on time with a smile and a positive attitude.
